Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded to a server?+
No. Restore is 100% client-side — your photo is processed entirely in your browser by AI models compiled to WebAssembly. The original photo and the result never leave your device.
Does it work offline?+
Yes. The AI models download on first use and are then cached, so once they have loaded you can restore photos with no internet connection. Install Restore as a PWA and it opens and runs offline.
Does it actually fix faces?+
Restore runs a CodeFormer face-restoration model on each detected face. It can materially improve blurry, small, or damaged faces — but AI restoration is a best guess, not a guarantee, and results vary between photos. Use the strength dial to control how aggressive the restoration is.
What does it cost?+
Restore is free. There is no signup, no watermark, and no per-photo limit in this build. Everything happens on your own device, so there is no server cost to pass on.
Can it colorize black & white photos?+
Yes — there is an optional colorize toggle that runs a DDColor AI colorizer. AI colorization is an informed guess at realistic colors, not the true original colors, so treat it as a creative enhancement.
